Assigning Owners to Documents

Last updated: March 30, 2026

Overview

Owners are responsible for managing documents and ensuring evidence is up to date. Documents can have a general or business owner and a security owner. You can assign owners when creating a custom document or change owners later.

When to Use

  • You need to assign responsibility for a document.

  • You want to change who manages a document.

  • You need to bulk assign owners to multiple documents.

Assigning Owners to an Individual Document

To assign or change owners for a single document:

  1. Navigate to ComplianceDocuments and open the document (click the document name).

  2. In the header area, double-click the owners area (where it shows avatars or "No owner"), or click Options and select Change owner.

  3. In the dialog, select General or business owner and/or Security owner.

  4. Confirm to save.

The document header will show the assigned owners. You can repeat these steps anytime to change owners.

Note: Permissions may limit who can assign or change owners (e.g. Org Admin or Manager roles).

Bulk Assigning Owners to Multiple Documents

To assign owners to multiple documents at once:

  1. Navigate to ComplianceDocuments.

  2. In the table, select the checkboxes for each document you want to update.

  3. In the toolbar above the table, click Assign owners (or use the bulk actions menu).

  4. In the dialog, you will see the list of selected documents. Choose General or business owner and/or Security owner. The same owner(s) will be applied to all selected documents.

  5. Click Assign owners to save, or Cancel to close without saving.

Selected documents are updated with the new owners. Bulk assignment helps you quickly assign responsibility across multiple documents.

Note: Bulk owner assignment overwrites existing owners on each selected document.
